Parents and PVA Students,
The decision has been made that Pirate Virtual Academy (PVA) will no longer be available AFTER the 2020-2021 academic year. Pirate Virtual Academy was created out of necessity due to the global pandemic and the many restrictions and worries that were brought on by COVID-19. PVA was never meant to be a long-term program that would allow students to work virtually for the entirety of their high school careers.
It is the expressed opinion of Hannibal Public Schools that the best learning takes place within the confines of our buildings and classrooms. Our school district has worked tirelessly to create a safe learning environment for each and every student, and no on-line program can mimic those educational and social benefits that are imperative to personal growth.
Hannibal Public Schools realizes the dangers that COVID-19 still presents to members of our school community. An appeal process will be made available prior to next school year for those families with a severe medical, or other, need within your home that may require your student to remain 100% on-line.
Again, Pirate Virtual Academy will not be available AFTER this school year and an appeal process will be made available at a later date.
Thank you!
