With over 800 Hannibal High School students taking classes at HCTC and 180 incoming students from area sending schools, HCTC is expanding its courses and offerings.

Brent Meyer, Director of HCTC, shared that several specific areas were in demand and additional classes and teachers have been added.  Health Services class requests continue to rise and allowed HCTC to expand the program by adding an additional teacher. The new instructor will be teaching EMT and phlebotomy courses.  Students taking classes in Health Services will have the opportunity to receive licenses and certifications in:

  • CNA
  • Phlebotomy
  • EMT
  • First Responder
  • Personal Trainer

All classes are 90 minute blocks and allow the students to try a variety of health areas or start a concentration in one area.  Students will complete all the necessary educational requirements for these careers and will be ready to take the license or board exams.  Simply said, HCTC is preparing the students for immediate work ready jobs upon high school graduation.

After just three years of the cosmetology program, a new crossover program will be available to HCTC graduates and adults with adding barber training and licensing.  Candidates with a CA license for one year may sign up to take the barber training class, during the summer, in preparation for the barber exam.  The class will be 45 hours spread out over 6 days. Barber training includes the precise use of straight blade razors and expands the services cosmetologists can offer in their careers.    HCTC may have a class at the end of the summer 2021 and if not, definitely in the summer of 2022.

Another exciting addition is the new program, Career Pathways to Teaching Positions.  Teaching Professions will provide students the opportunity to explore a variety of careers in education along with examining the historical, psychological, and social foundations of education.  Classroom observations at various levels, from lower elementary to secondary, complete this class. Students will have the opportunity to partner with Hannibal La-Grange University to receive up to 14 hours of dual credit towards a bachelor’s degree.

Thank you to all the educators that are providing our communities with career-ready employees and congratulations to all of the HCTC graduates!
